 When should I use the Solo mode?
Solution Version 6 sees the introduction of the Solo mode.
 
If you click any of the S icons in the column next to each layer, it will 'solo' this layer which means it hides everything else, except this layer. You can now work on this layer in isolation. Clicking the S button again will restore everything back to how it was before.

Likewise, You can click the S icon in the column next to a particular object from an expanded layer causing all objects other than those selected within the Solo mode to be displayed on screen.
